How Long?

please could you tell me whats the best time to turn my lights on in my tank? i go to work at 6am and i say go to bed around 9pm-10.30pm most nights so do i turn them on when i get up and off when i go to bed? im just looking for a idea of how long or when i need to light my tank.. cheers

It would probably be better to get a timer and have the lights come on at 1000 and then turn them off at 2200. 10 to 12 hrs is the most you want you lights on for 16hrs would most likely result in lots of algae.
