hi all
pretty new to all this so here it goes .
i've got a tank with 3 males and 7 female guppies .
about 3 female's seem to be pregnant and 1 especially looks really big .
she has been this size for about 2/3 weeks now and i am still waiting for her to give birth .

any idea how long she will be like this cause she seems rarther big .

hope to see babies soon

:*)

probably pregnent, 2/3 weeks means in 1-2 more weeks she'll be rdy to drop. have a look for her gravid spot ( usually near her bum ) and there should be a big black dot, the blacker the dot gets the further shes in , and you should be able to see there eyes too :)! put her in a seperate tank if you can and remove her straight after she's given birth to all the fry. if you dont have a seperate tank, buy a breeding net / breeding box from your LFS. hope this helps

If she's been pretty fat for 2-3 weeks, it should be within the next 2 weeks.

Lovely Little Fishies's post pretty much covers it all, however let me say that it's not really a good idea to put them in a breeder trap or net to let them give bith. It can stress them out if you put them in too early, and that can lead to abortion, birthing difficulties, and sometimes even death. The only time I'd put them in is when you've had them for a while, and you can tell just what they look like before they give birth. Sometimes you can put them in while they are giving birth, but if you have to chase them around the tank for 2o minutes first, it's usually not a good idea. However, you can let her give birth in the main tank and move the babies over to a breeder net, to keep them safe from other hungry fish.

Basically, small breeder tanks are the way to go, but breeder nets are okay for gorwing fry up a bit. I suggest you read the pinned topics in this forum, they are very helpful.
