Hi, I got some driftwood from the LFS today and have soaked it in a bucket of water. The water in the bucket is quite clear despite me expecting the driftwood to release toxins. Is this normal?

I was just wondering how long I should soak it in the water for and if I need to change the water daily?

How can I tell when the dritwood is ready for the tank?

Thanks in advance.

How big is the driftwood? If you can, you should boil it.

also but very rarly you can get pre soaked i think you can add carbon to speed th e process but im not 100% sure, that might only remove it from the water:/

Thanks for the replies. The driftwood is about 20cm by 20cm.

How long will I need to boil the driftwood for?

Will adding the driftwood too early to the tank be a threat and effect the fish?

No, in fact the tannins are beneficial, except maybe to fish that naturally live in very hard alkaline water. The wood will leach tannins for quite a while anyway, so as long as it sinks, you can bung it in when you feel like it.
