How Long To Go?

At the weekend I bought 2 platy females and one platy male. When I got them home and they started swimming about I noticed that one of my females looked pregnant, she has a much rounder belly than the other females and because she is a yellow platy you can see through her skin and I can see loads of tiny black dots inside her belly. Does this sound as if she may be due soon?

Well if you see tiny black dots inside her that is usually the eyes of the babies you are seeing. So she could be due quite soon, I would say maybe a week at the most! My boyfriends platys are also about soon due to be having babies too! We thought she was gonna have them last night, but she didn't yet.

Ok thanks you. Yes the black dots are very clear through her belly, hopefully I will be able to catch some in my tank before they get eaten. There is quite a few wee hidy spots though so some might make it.

if you can get some live bushy floating plants in there the fry tend to like hanging around in it, it makes it easier to catch them and put them in the breeder net or tank

Hiding spots can be at the bottom of the tank too. A favorite plant of mine is Java Moss. It's really easy to grow and provides great cover for the fry. Plus it's a really easy plant to have grow in the tank.
