Hello,
got 2 tanks going for 6 months, all happy families.

i wouldnt mind having the fry tank up and running, ready to go for next batch. can keep it ticking over with ammonia if i decide not to put anything small in it short term.

i put the filter material for a small filter, in the filter of my big tank.

what's a guesstimate on how long it might take for that filter material going from dry to being seeadable for a new tank?...days? weeks?

difficult to judge, but 4-8 weeks would be a good stab in the dark.

For a fry tank days/week. Bacteria can breed a at alarming rate, in this case you just adding more surface area for them to move in. I did this with my apiso tank i left mine in for 12 days then it went solo with no problems supporting 30 baby cacs :)
