got a platie whos pregs.. usally how long till she has the fry??

got her in a breeding net now

i understand its a 28-35 days gestation period (but usually close to the 28 days)

It's a great shame she's in a breeding net, must be stressful for her

dunno how long she been preg.. just dont want the fry to be eaten.. she dont seem to be to stressed.. any tell tail sings of when to put her in the breeding net if i let her back out?

i assume stressful, of ocurse i dont know for a fact.

the thing is, i been keeping platies and guppies etc for years, sometimes you can think if a fish is about to "pop" and it still takes 2-weeks for them to give birth!!! and sometimes, they might give birth and you didnt even know they were preggers

So its hard to tell....

What you may find when she is about to give birth (if shes in main tank) is that she will hide away, almost like shes trying to get some privacy!

On the other hand, if its obvious she's giving birth you might find 5 fish chasing her, sensing a nice extra meal is about to come their way!!!

cheers m8.. i know she was hidin under the rock which is in the tank.. i'll keep her in for now and prob let her out at weekend if nothin changed.. i got a preg molly which as got a male followin her everywhere but she not as black at the back as ma other

Although it sounds cruel and you may want all the fry, you will be quickly overcome with fry if you save them all. I recommend putting hiding places in the tank such as plants and decorations. This will allow some fry to survive, while others will be eaten. This is also better as many fry are born with deformities and struggle if kept alive. Also, breeding nets can cause a fish to abort her fry.
