My green swordtail is pregnant, we've been told that she's quite far on... but how much longer do you think she will be before she drops her fry?

I've got an orange swordtail who is also pregnant and pretty much the same body shape and size and the gravid spot is the same size and colour.

They are XL swordtails btw.

thanks! yeah she's a pretty one alright. My male has taken to her more than the two female orange swordtails! that said, the male is a bit of a tart lol

Meant to say i'm going to 'attempt' to get a better more recent pic of her tonight. the ones in my first post were taken about 4 to 5 days ago.

She has got a bit longer, when she is ready to drop her belly just looks all black and you can sort of see the opening as well! :good:

I've had her just over a week. she was pregnant when i bought her (obviously - stupid me!) but she just stuck out from the other green swordtails so i just had to have her!

she has got the white spot at her bottom if thats any help! lol (not that i make a habit of staring at her rear end - except in hope that she'll drop lol)

I predict in next few days..........do you have a spare tank for the fry/mother to drop them.?

Mine usually have them in the first day after adding them to the Breeding tank, it must be the calmer conditions, or they know why theyr'e in there by now!!

Good luck. :good:

ooh exciting stuff. yeah the white spot on her butt does look like that.

i might put her in the breeding trap now. that way the male will leave her be.

sounds like fun :) make sure not to bug her too much while in the trap. just place her in shut the lights off and let her be. or else she may get very stressed out.

and when she does have them make sure you write down the date, they are very consistent so you'll have a good idea when she will have her next fry.mine has hers about every 6 weeks.

wow! ok.

have put Juliet (green swordtail) and Big Orange (swordtail) into the breeding trap with the divider. lights out, little bit of munchy stuff for them... and now a waiting game starts.

my swordtail tends to have a few at a time as oppossed to my molly who seens to just "spit"them all out at once.keep on eye on her when you see the first ones come out and as soon as you think she's done take her out or she'll eat the fry.if this is her first time having fry she probably won't have very many.i think mine had about 15 her first time.it increased after that.good luck :good:
