Some of you may be aware that I have 3 golden eyed dwarf cichlids...

I really wanted a trio of a boy and two girls as had been assured that this was the best arrangement for peaceful living.

I have had NOT ONE SINGLE LOSS since setting up A BRAND NEW TANK because I LISTENED TO THE PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM AND I TOOK THE ADVICE OF MY *decent* LFS AND RESEARCHED THE FISH I WAS GETTNG!!!

Sorry, that's just for the record... seeing some folks tanks and stocking I'm not surprised some people think this is all so difficult and that fish keeping is hard, the tank at work being a PRIME example.. I'm feeling quite proud about 2 months down the line and *slapping* wood that it stays that way!

:D

I got a batch of cichlids from the shop, the dealer had trouble finding me 'females' and now believe he had a set of pure males, because as my 2 smaller boys are growing, the heat in the tank is increasing!

Dave, the big boss male, was always supreme ruler, but his little brothers are bigger now and he seems to be getting rattier...

Basically things are no longer restful in my tank!!!

The big guy just chases his brothers (??) CONSTANTLY, with much posturing and erecting of the dorsal fin.. The two smaller guys are forever under a log or in the plants or looking harrassed.. it can't be good for them.

I've sourced some girls..

But I've had the three boys well over a week now.. Can I send the two little guys back to the LFS from whence they came on an exchange for other goods or services d'y' think.. or would I get laughed out of the shop?!!

ring them and ask! a flat mate of mine bought a large prawn thing that ate a few of my fish so i took it back and they exchanged it for a really nice angle of the same value! i don't think they'ed laugh at you but it would be better to check so you don't wind up wondering around the shop with some fish in a bag aimlessly!!! :*)

edit bad spelling!

Yeah, a week isn't that long, especially if you were sold them as a male and two females but you now suspect the smaller ones are boys too. I can't see they'd have a problem, especially if you'd accept shop credit instead of a money refund. No harm in asking!

It really depends on the store. If it is not a chain, they are more apt to take an older/larger fish back. My son's 40 gallon tanks started to develop a bad algae problem. The LFS near him (he buys all his fish there including his SW fish) sold him a common pleco and told him he could bring it back in 6 months or a year when he started to get too big and he would give him credit for it. It helps if you have a good store and a good relationship with the owner.

Edit: When you call, be sure you ask what they do with returned fish. There was a post a while back from someone that returned a fish to Walmart. They gave him credit but he later found that they flush/destroy all returned fish because (this is kind of hilarious) they couldn't put returned fish back in their tanks for fear of introducing diseases into thier own tanks and killing their fish.

I hope I do.. He's supplied me every fish in the tank, sand base, live plants and bogwood accessories plus food, water conditioners and W/S cure- purchased as a precaution...!

I'll see what happens, I guess the problem if you are always taking fish back is what have they been exposed to with the person who bought them!

My god that's AWFUL!! I won't do that to them.. I'll advertise them here if need be!

Anyone in the North East after a couple of Nannacara Anomala?!! :)

I'm not saying all stores are like that. Most true LFS (not chains) would take them back properly - quarantine them and then put them back after they were sure they were ok. That may not even be true for Walmart but with what I have seen in their stores, it wouldn't really surprise me if it was.

They'll probably take them back, a week isn't long... My LFS will take pretty much any fish from me, even if I didn't buy it from them, probably because I'm a loyal customer and they know my fish are healthy :)
