How Long In Breeder

how long can i keep my platy in the breeder for? can i keep her in for 2 weeks. i had a fish who had fry when i was gone and when i came back, there was only one and when i went to catch it, it got eaten . i cant have that happen again. my brother is looking forward to have his fish have babies.
