hi, how long does the air pump need to be on as i am thinkin of moving my tank into my bedroom and the air pump will be to noisey at night, thanks ;)

it doesn't "Need" to be on at all, in a healthy tank you dont need one at all.

if you would still like to use it you can plug it into a timer to shut off when you go to bed.

ok cool thanks for the quick reply

no problem,

just so you know the signs, if the oxygen level in the water is too low the fish will all be at the surface kind of gasping for air. their gill covers will be going like the clappers as well. if your at all worried next time your at home all day unplug the airpump in the morning and watch the fish during the day. if after 12/14 hours the fish are still swimming around as normal your fine. if they are gasping at the surface your oxygen level has dropped.

if the later happens it's down to a couple of things, either an over stocked tank or temp too high. (the higher the temp the lower the capacity of the water to carry disolved oxygen). 26 degrees is ideal, at 31/32 my fish start to have problems. Not sure you knew that already but if you didn't you do now.

I leave them on 24/7 since it doesn't do any harm and its nice to have those bubble thing poping up.

I have mine for the current and the curtain effect but that's it. I'd probably just remove them but the fish seem to enjoy the current.
