How Long Does It Take

i had a little higher then 8ppm of ammonia and im finishing up my cycle and im down to 0.50ppm of ammonia and its been like a day and a half is this normal?

(fishless cycling) using safe ammonia ofcourse

If it is going from 8 to zero in a day that is fine. How about your nitrite? Is it still climbing?

my nitrite today was at 5ppm and then i checked later today 0ppm, checked my nitrates 40ppm, i think im cycled!

If i am reading correctly, you are saying that both ammonia and nitrite were 0 today. If so, time to get fishes!

I would raise the ammonia back up to around 4 or 5 ppm a couple more times just to make sure the ammonia and nitrite process in about 10 or 12 hours before getting fish.
