Can someone tell me how long it takes a female guppy to be completely done giving birth. She started last Friday (at least that is when I first noticed the babies) but is still rather fat. The black spot near her anal fin has deminished and almost completely un-noticable now. Just want to make sure nothing is wrong with her.

She may not reduce in size right away or she may have and then ballooned up quickly after that. Within 24 hours most fish finish the birthing process. Females store sperm so she is pregnant again most likely whether you have males in the tank or not. I notice my fish get real fat at the beginning of the pregnancy, slim down, and then grow large again before birth. Your fish should most definitely be done birthing.

Thanks for the reply. That makes alot of sense to me and is probably what is going on. Phew I am more at ease now :)

It was something to worry about after all. She died tonight :( my first loss. I got home from work and she was gone. She kept getting larger and larger. Her scales (or what appeared to be scales) stuck away from her body. Her head was sunken in to where you could barley tell where her face was. Could this have something to do with birth (like one got stuck or something) or could it be a disease I need to worry about with my other fish?

Sorry for the loss, but it common for females to stay fat as they produce eggs just befor giving birth so as one little is being born then next is alreadt lined up for the next batch.

Dropsey as said befor many factors can cause this, but if u ever see a problem do a extra water change.
