I have flourite substrate, used liquid and substrate fertilizer. 55wats for a 20 g tank (6500K). I planted it on tuesday, how long does it take stem plants to start to grow roots?

Depends on species, and how you planted them.

But IME, anywhere between 12 hours and a week.

sometimes the plants float to the top and when i re plant them, i can't see any roots the the stem... i hope this constant floating away doesn't kill the plants. Also the stem should be planted under the substrate right?

Yes, what species of plants are they?

What type of substrate are you using?

What type of lighting tube is it?

Any other info? Like, is the tank cycling?

it didn't say at LFS, just hydrophilic plants. Flourite Substate, Glo Life Compact Florescent 50w (6500K), cycling tank.

i saw some anubis, but it was $50 was 1 stem

here are some pics:

Sorry for the slow response. You have there a slightly sorry-for-itself looking specimin of Pogostemon helferi, and the next one is Thai Stricta (Hygrophila corymbosa).

The Thai stricta will root and grow faster, but they will have both been grown emersed so it can take quite a few days to even just let the plants adjust to growing underwater IME.

May have wanted to start planting with more plants to try avoid algae.
