I'm wondering how long it takes guppy fry to get their colors? I've tried to find out myself but I just can't find any info about how long it takes.

I have 3 guppy from that are about 6-10 weeks old and none have any coloring except gray and then a couple black streaks on their tails.

Thanks! :)

Oh also how can I tell male from female??

I'm sorry if these questions have been asked before...I've tried searching on here for old posts but couldn't seem to find any.

Thanks!

Guppy fry are normally pretty easy to sex by 3 months, and most will have their color by then, although not the COMPLETE color.

Example: Here's a 2 month old male (born June 1st, pic taken Aug 11th) Half Black Yellow Leopard

and his sister (pic taken same day)

Notice how DEEP black his body coloring is? It's been like that since he was about a month old, while the females stayed "grey/silver". Also, his tail color started about thte same time and has been MUCH brighter, more defined then the females.

HTH :)

Thanks so much for your reply it's really helped!!

Your fry are so beautiful mine are just silver. The oldest one is 1 1-2 months old. Do you think it's going to be just a plain female? :(

I'm hoping that the fry that were born today are going to be a lot more colorful. I know who the mom is this time and she's got really nice colors. I think the other guppies mom might of been one of the plain females I used to own. I took her and another plain female to my lfs the other day. They were nice fish but I want colorful guppies
