I think my catfish may be pregnant as she has got a really big belly, there are no males in the tank, and was wondering how long till she lays them, she seems to be getting bigger and bigger, she looks like a pufferfish

What kind of catfish is it? Are it's scales sticking out?

How big is your tank, how long has it been set up, what fish are in it and have you tested the water at all?

Sorry for all the questions, but there are also diseases that can make fish swell up.

A pic would really help; you need to upload it to hosting site, like Photobucket or Flickr, and paste the IMG code into your post :good:

I'm not sure what type it is, it is leopard print, it is a large fluba corner tank, its been set up about 3 years there are malowis and plecos in there, I can't get photobucket to work I can download it as my profile pic on facebook if that helps

Leopard plec? Leopard corydoras?!

Any pic would help!

Leopard corydoras, I have set it as my profile pic on facebook, the name I use on there is gemma stilwell

Ok, here's the pic for everyone to see (hope you don't mind me borrowing it to post!)

That doesn't look like eggs at all, more like some sort of bloating.

Bloating is difficult to treat, as it has so many causes. You could try a salt bath (for catfish you need to use a low dose of salt; 1 or 2 tablespoons or either aquarium or Epsom salts; not table salt per gallon of water) for 20 minutes a day; but watch the fish very carefully and be prepared to take it out if it shows signs of distress, as scaleless fish like catfish aren't very salt tolerant.

Thanks for all your help, we will try that

Sorry one more thing, will the epsoms salts be ok with my other fish

You need to to give the salt bath in a separate bucket or something, not in the main tank. Then you can get the fish back out and into freshwater if it appears to be very distressed.

It's also not a Leopard Cory. It's a Synodontis of some form, most likely a hybrid between Euptera and Multipunctata or something along those lines.

It looks like bloating, 2x daily baths in 1 gallon of tank water with 1 tablespoon of Epsom Salts. 15 -20 minutes per time though if the fish looks distressed remove after 5-10 minutes.

What is the size of the tank? - You say corner tank but how many gallons/litres?
What other fish? - need specific names not just "malawi's and plecs".

Can you answer me these questions please?

I did wonder  I was thinking "Hmm, surely Fluttermoth has noticed and told them..." So I kept reading and then thought I'd just point it out ;)

She don't seem to be getting any better the other fish are attacking her so I have separated her, is she in pain if so is it best to humanly put her to sleep

It's always difficult to tell if fish are in pain or not. Only you can decide really whether it would be for the best or not :/

Ok ill see how she is over the weekend, thanks for all your advice
