Hi there,

I started my diy co2 mix 2pm yesterday i was just wondering how long it will take to produce co2 and if it doesnt how long should i wait to start another mix?

Regards Darren

you start getting CO2 as soon as the yeast is added to the sugae water mix. But it takes 24-48 hours before you get enough pressure to push it into the tank.

edited to add the unit I use is a 30litre container that has a couple of inch gap between the lid and water level.
For the 2litre bottle below it should be a lot quicker if there is very little air in the bottle.

With a correctly sealed DIY (2 litre bottle) and a good mix that is not started in the actual bottle, you should see CO2 bubbles within 10 mins of hookup.

You should check the seals of your unit as this is often the problem and does not allow enough pressure to build up to push the gas through to your tank.

Another way to get production going quickly is to get a small cup of warm water, add a spoon of sugar and your yeast to this mix and then stir/froth it up. After a few mins a 'head' will appear on the mix. Keep frothing it up for about 1/2 hour and then add this to your main sugar/water mix in the DIY bottle. Give the bottle a gentle shake and then hookup to your tank. I usually get bubbles within 3 minutes - if I don't I'll give it a shake to make sure my seals are ok.

Hope this helps.

Hi all solved the issue and did some research that may help firstly like an idiot did not de-chlorinate the water and I believe that the Sh!t in the water killed the yeast. Secondly the optimum temperature to activate yeast is 32-38 degrees (90-100F) from now from 15 - 31degrees (60-90f) and also 39c (90f) onwards the yeast slows and too hot and its killed, the method I used is the same as questor more or less but the reason it failed this time was impure starting water, killed my yeast

Thanks all

Darren

well there you go, learn something everyday. Yeast do better at temps between 32 & 38C, cool, well warm actually but cool anyway :)
