i have the jbl model which you mix with water in a bottle. does it run out when all the water has gone and the bottle is empty or something else?

The water goes nowhere - the yeast consumes the sugar giving off CO2 as a by product. When all the sugar is gone the CO2 stops being produced. However there is not enough CO2 being produced near the end of the process for us to use in the planted tank.

Have a look at some of the stickys and threads at the top of the planted section for more help.

Good luck.

what about the more expensive models the ones which you buy gas cyclinders, do they last alot longer? if so how much longer?

That's pressurised CO2. Read the post 'A guide to CO2' to find out more.

It depends on size of cylinder, BPS, and size of tank.

2Kg i think can last up to a year depending on size of tank as more BPS are needed to keep up with 30ppm. 2Kg are Fire extinguishers.
