How Long Does Chlorine Evaporate?

I bought new betta fish and I need to know when chlorine evaporates so that it is safe for the betta.

just go buy some declor......

but i had a 5 gal tank and never used a declor and just put in tap water and fish did fine. - just kills the bact.

I'm pretty sure it will be okay after a day or so. I would recommend using bottled water, or some dechlorinator.
