I have 3 pictus in Quarantine and im itching to get them into my main tank.

I am planning on keeping them in Quarantine for 2 weeks, especially as the tank next to theirs in the LFS had Ich.....

How long do you QT your new arrivals? Have you a tank to do this? is it worth it?
I reckon 2 weeks to let visible signs of disease set in....

What do YOU think..... :p

You don't have to quarantine the new fish as long as you acclamate the new fish befor you put the fish into the main tank. That way the fish does not get really stressed out :D

Quarantine is for diseases that havent shown up yet really, not for stress :)

Imagine putting a fish in your tank who has just contracted a nasty bug. He then spreads it around all your fishies! Terrible. Quarantine for a week and your other fish will be fine whilst you notice and treat the disease.

2 weeks is probably enough for anything to show :)

Using a quarantine tank is one of the most important things you can do. It is in my mind required. Acclimating a fish is merely getting it used to your water parameters but it does not show if a fish has a disease. The quarantine tank if used properly will enable you to keep the fish away from the rest of the tank until you are fairly certain that it is not carrying a disease. Failing to quarantine is the single biggest reason most of us end up with disease outbreaks in our established and otherwise well maintained tanks. :)

If voting in this poll were possible ( ) I would vote for "I don't bother". It's not that quarantining is "a bother", I've just never felt it was necessary for me. I buy only from reliable fish stores that quarantine all their fish prior to selling them.
