Guppies and most other livebearers give birth after dark so the predators can't see the newborn fry and eat them. They don't need to be kept in the dark.
Aquarium lights will not provide Vitamin D for the fish unless you have metal halides and the light units don't have UV reducing glass on it.
Fish get most of the Vit D they need from the fish food they eat. A varied diet will prevent nutritional deficiencies form occurring.
Tetras are the only fish I know of that have light sensitive eggs. The eggs of most species of tetra won't hatch if they are kept in a light environment. Therefore if you breed tetras, you should not have a light on the tank and when the parents have been removed, the tank should be covered with a towel until the eggs have hatched.
