I know this is realy a livebearer thing, but its more a general question anyways.
Basically i have a black male molly in my main tank who i have had for about a year now, when i first bought him from my lfs the owner of the store there mentioned he had had a previous owner who had owned him for about 4yrs.
In the last 6months he has grown quite thin- at first i thought maybe it was a desease but no kinds of meds has affected his condition. I don't think it is a desease mainly because he would have probably died after by now, i beginning to wonder wether this is maybe a sign of old age.
He rarely ever mates with my 2 female mollys who i've had for about 1year and a half and they have never had any illnesses/deseases in the time i have had them despite never using aquarium salt in the tank once for anything, so i don't think this is a brackish molly thing. He still eats well and is very docile and has never been agressive to any fish in the tank or females like some of the previous male mollys i've had in the past.
Im basically wondering wether this is a age thing and how long i should expect him to live now, i've tried helping him gain weight by feeding him all kinds of food imaginable- i've tried freezedried bloodworms, daphinia, tubifex, krill, various fry foods, cucumber/algae wafers, different brands of fish flakes etc- are there any other foods that could help him gain weight? He isn't very skinny, but just thin.
His health is fine otherwise apart from the weight and the last illness he had was months ago(pop eye, but cleared up within 2 days) and has always been healthy other than that- is there anything i can do?
Any suggestions/advice/info are much appreiciated
Thanks for your time
