Our firsh batch of guppy fry we knew our female was pregnant but had no idea when she would birth. Came home from work one day & she had lost weight, but couldn't find any babies. As we have a rather angry dwarf gourami male + a cool big lad (gourami) I assumed they had had a fine meal. My daughter & son in law came over & he found a fry in the tank. You can imagine the scramble with net as others were found & placed in a nursery tank. Well we have 2 guppy fry & 5 platty fry about 6 weeks old now. Another of our guppy females is HUGE & seems like she has gone way over her time. Each time I think she is about to drop her fry I have put her in what we call "the birthing suite" But to no avail. We take her out after a day. Last night we put our male in with her & another female who are in their own seperate tank " the preggers tank" & this morning at 4am she had given birth to one fry. So the scramble was on again. Now she is in the birthing suite, baby is safe from her & after 2 hours she has not had another fry??? Just how long can this take. I feel like pushing for her she is so huge.

Any answers greatly appreciated.

Hi Nanna,

You may find this article very interesting and you may learn a few things. Stages of birthing Guppies

If you have live plants in your aquariam you may find fry hiding in the plants, they tend to dart off and seek refuge, but if left alone too long in the tank with your aggresive Gourami, you may find thats what taking them.

I dont have exerience myself at present, but given time i am sure you will soon recognise when your Guppy is about to drop but bear in kind that your Guppy may abort her fry if she feels any excess stress so timing is essential.

I am sure there will be others that can add more valuable advice for you.

Hi, You need to look for the remaining fry and put them into a floating tank or different tank so they can grow without being eaten.

Also the user who left you info is not named 'Fish Crazy' but, Axleuk, fish crazy comes from how many posts he has made and as he makes more posts or contributions to posts that will change , ie yours is Newbie :good:
