I just picked up my new 75 gallon tank (48"x18"). It will definitely house my Black Ghost Knife and after that I am open to possibilities. I am thnking I will be adding firemouths, keyholes, and/or dwarf cockatoos.

I am wondering how well these three species would mix and how many of any one species, or how many of each type if I were to put more than one species in the tank. Your expertise is appreciated.

wel.. i would say they would work pretty well, except that the firemouths get realatively bigger, you could get 2-3 of each at least

You can squeeze all three in, but I'd be more inclined to go with just two pairs and give them a more natural amount of space. You'll also have room for some bottom feeders and schoaling fish if you want.

Ghost Knifes can go with a huge range of new worlds ive keept mine with heaps right now he is best mates with my 11" Oscar.

Thanks all,

Vip- I was actually asking about how well the different species of the cichlids would get along, sorry for my ambiguity. You had answered my question a while ago about what would be good tankmates for my BGK (answer - any nw cichlid). Here I was just trying to get a further understanding.

thanks again everyone

I'd say no on the keyholes..they are to peaceful for the others.
On the bgk,you can have them with many cichlids, just watch out for the fin nippers, they can do a lot of damage to a bgk in no time at all..they like the end of the tail ,i suppose it looks like a worm or something to them.
I have my bgk in with 2 sevs and 2 juvie cons with no issues.
