My tank is always around 27.5-28.......with no heater on (its set up to kick in at 26)

over night it will drop to 27.2 ish...........is it my lights that are keeping it hot (is that possible in a 350 litre tank) or is that just a warm room temp?

T

we have our house at around 22º normally. (with the temp falling over night as the heating is never on)

our 350l had its heater unplugged for 2 days following a forgetful moment after a water change - the temp didnt drop from 27º in 2 days.

hhhmmm... <<thinks back to GCSE Physics.>>

The thermal inertia of water is reasonably high - that is to say that it retains its heat quite well. Likewise, its specific heat capacity is higher than say, air. That is, it takes a fair bit of energy to heat a body of water.
In addition, one of the laws of thermodynamics states that the heat loss of one body is directly proportional to the temperature difference of adjectent bodies.

In english, if you have a warmish room, the temp of the tank will decrease more slowly than if its cold. B)
The lights will have a minor affect on the water temp, esp if you have surface movement.

Whats the temp of the room? What kind of lights do you have.
I suspect both contribute to it, but that kind of fluctuation shouldn't be a problem?

P.S just call me geek............

i have 3 T5 39 w and 2 T8 15 w......so around 28 is not too hot then? i dont need to look at cooling it?
