I keep mine at 26 C, my fish are in my sig.

You will need to do some research into the requirements for your particular fish. Check several sources, I've found that there are disagreements on the recomendations for some fish. Then try to achieve a happy medium, giving more weight to your most sensitive fish.

Temerature in one of many variables that should be considered before adding fish to a tank.

Its worth mentioning that many fish can comfortably exist outside of their ideal temperature range. Just don't overdo it. Platys like to be in water from 73-77, ideally in the upper end of that- but you won't hurt them keeping them in 79 or 80F. Anything above that for very long and they'll begin to become sluggish. 83 would make them very lethargic and unhappy. 86 would likely kill them in not very long. An angelfish is happiest at about 80-82F, but can take temperatures up to 90F for short periods of time without any harm, and wouldn't be negatively affected by a long hot summer where it was constantly at 84. Meanwhile, the Paradise fish (Macropodus obercularis) in that same tank might die of heat exaustion- itself prefering temperatures from 72-77F. You absolutely can't keep a paradise happy at above 80F (we're talking about obercularis here folks don't flame me). So you see, as mentioned by others, research and make sure all the fish you want like reasonably similar temperature, pH, gH, Kh, etcetera ranges.
