Just getting some feedback on what people have on their current set up.

Most tanks seem to come with a standard hood, or people make their own hoods to suit. Noticed a lot of lighting rigs which just sit on top of the tank, so hood would not be able to be used.

I understand having condensation trays etc to help keep temperature constant and help keep the water level the same.

How many people leave their tanks open to the elements or have them covered up!

Got me thinking after reading a thread in the DIT section about the hydor and seeing that some people use them without a lid and it keeps a constant temperature.

Was under the impression a hood was a standard thing to have and persuaded suicidal fish to stay put!

My main tank has a hood on it, because a)It came with the hood and that's here the lighting is and B ) i have hatchet fish so i NEED a hood.

But my small planted tank doesnt have a hood because I think it looks better, and I have plants growing out of the water that are too tall for a hood.

Love to have open topped tank, but the norm appears to be hooded, plus not sure hoodless tank would be good!

Thinking that the condensation tray could interfere with the lighting?

i have overhead lighting on all my tanks i hate hoods! on any tank with fish that can and will try to escape i fit glass sliding covers and just cut out anything thats needed for pipe work etc :good:

Well, I voted with a hood, however, all but one of my 10gal have glass tops w/a light set on top.

I also voted for a hood because all of my tanks I have bought have come with hoods, the hood houses the lighting device, and it keeps fish form jumping out.

All of my tanks have hood, except a 10gallon that houses a bullfrog, it has a screen top ;)
