Since I just set up my 5 gallon I was thinking dwarf puffer since I really like the look of them. I originally was thinking a platy but after googling it seems there claimed to be hardy. Yes I know they require frequent water changes which I am able to so. I plan to put some filter floss on top of my recently cycled 5 gallon tank for a week during the first part of my cycle and then move to my newer 5 Gallon to help move it along.

Would it work or am I best to stick to the Platy.

Make sure the tank is fully cycled before you put the puffer in and you'll probably be ok. They're not tolerant of ammonia or nitrite at all,

Dwarf Puffers are not hardy at all when it comes to Nitrite and Ammonia and high levels of Nitrate, Also very salt intolerant.

You need a mature tank that is well maintained to keep these alive and happy.

Cheers, Karl
