At the pet shop, they've had several <edit>honey</edit> gouramis. They've been active and doing well in the shop so I was thinking about getting 1 for a tank I'm putting together. Thing is though, the fish are young, still only about 3/4 of an inch long. Was wondering long will it take for the fish to reach its full 2-2.5 inches?

Most small fish reach their adult size within a year :) Once you get them home and start feeding them well, they'll probably have a major growth spurt.

Hi tear-scar :)

Are you sure that they were gold gouramis? I ask that because it's unusual to see them being sold at that size. They are usually a lot bigger.

Do you think they might have been honey gouramis instead? They are small when sold and never do get as large as the gold, which is a color variation of the 3 spot.

Here is a link with a picture of the honey gouramis:

What do you think?

I agree with Inch, if it only reaches 2" it must be a Honey Gourami (or a colour morph of it). Gold Gouramis are a morph of the Three-spot Gourami Trichogaster trichopterus and grow to a maximum size of 4"

Blah; sorry guys . . . I meant honey gourami; it's just that my pet shop called them "Golden Honey Gouramis" to differentiate from the red strain of honey gourami and I made a typo. *smacks himself*
