Hi all, still waiting for my CO2 stuff to arrive, once it does I intend to prune heavily, as growth has become spindly. How far can I cu things back, are there any rules concerning aquatic plants? Cheers :>
Depends on the type of plant, stem plants you can probably cut off at gravel level and they'd grow again, however normal practice is to cut half or two third of the way down and then replant the top bit. Rosette plants like swords you don't really prune rather just remove the outer and/or dieing leaves. You can train them a bit to grow small by removing the largest leaves when they get too big, the same goes for lilies and their surface leaves, cut them off once they reach the surface and over time the plant 'learns' to grow leaves that don't touch the surface.
Guess the only other type are the HC/moss type plants which you just trim with scissors AKA give them a hair cut
