I have a 90l (20 gallon tank) I have not yet stocked it (have 4 tetras and 2 ADFs) but my stocking plans are...

4- Diamond Tetras
2- African Dwarf Frogs
3- Corydoras (have not decided which yet.. can i get one of each of do they have to be the same??)
4- Guppies
4- Tetras (not sure what they're called but the blackish ones with red fins)
1- larger fish e.g siamese fighter (but less aggressive)

Want to keep a bit of space to buy some fish as I please... Would this be an ok number?? Could I have more??

I love this forum.. sorry for all the questions but I'm one of those over protective mother types and I just want to get it right.. It used to really upset me when I lost my fish in my old tank that I had years ago!

Thanks for all you replies.. you guys really help! :good:

It doesn't sound to bad, corrys like to be kept in shoals of 6 though. They don't do that well in smaller groups (It depends) I've heard of smaller groups working, but I've also heard of them not working and the corrys die. Most tetras don't exceed 3 inches... Or 3 and a half. I'm not sure what kind of tetras you are talking about but you should look it up. I'm not very good at math but you can use the 1" of fish per gallon of water as a rough idea. I would HIGHLY recommend not using it exactly. It's always good to give more space then the 1" rule. I'm not to sure on the betta though. I've heard a lot of conflicting stories lately about betta fish in a community. I would add up all your smaller fish and see if you will have room for them before you start figuring on a larger fish.

corys will benifit from being in a group of 6+ (however im going to put mine in 8-12, need to save those pennies becausue Adolfi corys are £6.50 each..... *drops dead*)
A betta is not best for a community tank, if it "goes bad" then it can kill the smaller fish....

Everything sounds good for your tank, but the siamese fighter. I would remove the betta because they can be aggressive to otehr small fiswh and their fins actually get torn when they are in larger tanks such as yours. bettas should only be kept in a bout 1-2 gallon aquarium. Also i would add a few more cory cats.

Thanks for the replies.. I will rethink the betta and maybe get 4-5 corys

Oh and does anyone know the answer to the other question... do different corys shoal together or do i have to get all the same type??

Just googled dwarf gouramis will def get a couple of them! :hyper:

In regards to your question about different corydoras shoaling, the answer is yes I have 4 bronze and 2 peppered corydoras and all shoal together or split off into groups of 3 (depending on if its feeding time or not)

Can happen but its by no means the best answer, to get the most out of cories have species groups of atleast 5/6 :)

I know that species prefer being with their own kind, but I would have thought corydoras would have been more 'open minded' in a fishy sort of sense lol.

Well it'll be like keeping neons with black neons, yes there very similar and probably would be tolerant enough of eachother to group occasionly but hey, its everyones choice :) personly I think 1 large group of a single species is more impressive anyway!

Ok revised list..... 90l tank.. what do you think?

2x African Dwarf frogs
4x Neon tetras
2x Dwarf gouramis
2x Discus
4x Guppies
4/5x Corydoras

is that too many or does that sound ok??

2 discus in 90l? Try again :p Id take out the discus and exchange the 4 guppies to make room for 8 neons :)

Glad I asked... thought my tank was big enough for Discus  wish I'd bought a bigger tank now.. seems with 90l your really limited!

Thanks for the advice though.
