I have a few female fish that look pregnant. I know you are suppose to look for a gravid spot but sometimes its hard to see. I think a few are pregnant but I never know whent to put them in the net breeder. I dont want to put them in too soon... or too late. Any suggestions?

I dont know either that is why I'm on this forum thing. I have a boy and a girl platie and swordtails (a boy and 2 girls) and I'm not sure when to put the pregnant girls in my other little tank I have so that the babies will be safe when they have them. Hopefully its not soon though because I have a tetra with ick and he is in the aquarium now.Even if he dies I still have to wait 14 days because thats how long it takes to kill ick competely with ick killer stuff. I guess I con just put my divider in my big tank and let the babies live on one side of it.

I'm not a fan of any type of breeding traps as it stresses the fish out :( I generally let mine have their fry in the main tank and even with minimal planting I usually find at least 3-5 survive. I have a separate 5 gallon tank that I sometimes put a female in about a week before she gives birth and then end up with 40 of the little darlings  You have to watch them when they've given birth then mark it down on a calendar and 4 weeks later she should be ready again.

Here is a picture of my female Audrey and you can clearly see the eyes in her belly. The eyes show at about 2 weeks into the pregnancy and she just gets progressively bigger everyday till she's nearly square! She had her babies a week after this picture was taken and she was very big by then
