Was just wondering how to prepare a cucumber to feed my fish? Do I need to boil? What temp does the cuc need to be, room temp? Do I remove the seeds? How long should I leave the cucumber in the tank?

Thanks.

You can boil it for half a minute to a minute to soften it up if you want. Other than that, just give it a wash and chuck it in. Id take it out after its been in overnight personally bought you could probably leave it in for 24 hours without problems.

Wouldn't leave it in too long as it will start to decay in guessing.

I just cut a bit off, weight it down (spoon or I use a screwcucumber) and chuck it in  I dont wash, boil or anything, its straight from the fridge, its usually eaten within 24/48 hrs, any left I take it out after that.

Same except i use lead to weight it down (the kind you get when you buy plants) and i feed them courgette not cucumber.

I am the same as Minx, I just give mine a run under the tap, then screw it on to my screwcumber and drop it in. In my big tank it is usually gone by the morning, but in my small tank, I will leave it in for 24hrs. I also use courgette which I am told is more nutritious than cucumber, but I don't really know much about that. I also feed banana, my clown loach love it, but it needs taking out after an hour or two if not eaten.

Do you just throw in a big chuck for the fish to nibble at and bite bits off?

Or do you have to cut it to a size that a fish can eat whole? Same for bananas?

sizze depends on the fish... for my plecos i slic about an inch down the cumcumber cut of the hard green bits n sink the white core with the wieghts you get with plants :)

i use it striaght from the fridge too i either wiegh it down with lead or ues a sucker off a heater and stick it to the side of the tank in a couple of places that works well for me

Thanks for all the replies. I was wondering if I could take it straight from the fridge.

I have x6 Tiger Barbs, x 1 RTBS, x6 pristilla tetras, 15 harelquins, x6 blood fin tetras, x4 panda corys, 1 apple snail, 6 or so trumpet snails?, x 4 shrimp.

So should I give any of those fish some cukes?

Thanks.

I have Tiger Barbs and they will nibble at the cucumber, I would imagine all your other fish would give it a go also.
