my freshwater moray has a new home, and when i tested the water i had nitrates, any1 know how i can lower this, i put some commercial nitrate removal in but is there any other way i can remove some of it?

amonia 0

As far as I know there's only one way to remove nitrates - Water change. The nitrates will get diluted and the concentration will drop. A 25% or 50% change would solve the problem.

ok looks like im do for one then, question, i never really understood this but should i condition the water after i add it in?

Change a third of the water, add water ager to the new water before you put it in. Check nitrates in another three or four days and repeat if you need to.

you could also add plants to your tank. they wont get rid of all of the nitrate but thewy will help lower the levels of it. plus they look better.
and also do a water change to make sure you arent in the dangerous levels.

Assuming you have been keeping the moray correctly, the water will be brackish, meaning you will need to mix salt into a bucket of water before adding it to the tank.

If it is FW, I wouldn't worry too much about when to add dechlorinator. I throw some in the tank and then fill up from the cold tap for my FW tanks

Water changes is the best way. Alternatively, you can buy a denitrifier which converts the nitrate much the same as your bacterial filter does with the ammonia and nitrite. You can get one from your LFS. Personally i'd go with water changes, probably more reliable. :good:

no nothing in the tank now, im not that stupid, planned to get puffs tuesday maybe ill hold off till i bring my levels down
