I've had one for about two months and have looked after it by doing absolutely nothing. Seems fine so far. Not sure about the splitting, but presumably the two halves won't be ball-shaped for a long while if you do.

Do you have to roll it over ,every so often to keep all side s green?

Yes, just roll them over every so often. I do it every water change but that's just because I'd forget to do it every few months.

I think if I remember correctly, they only grow a few mil every year so don't be expecting a huge moss ball in a few months.

Oh and yes, you can split them.

If you want to split them the best way is to tie the pieces into ball shapes with string and every so often roll them over. After a LONG time they will be big enough to split again. I wouldn't split them until they are about 2" diameter or you'll just end up with a couple of tiny bits that'll be hard to tie.

cheers :good:

I just split mine and rolled it into a ball shape with my hands - simples! You need to just gently swish them around in some used tank water when you do a water change now and again to wash out any gunk build up. Other than that they are maintenance free and are a good source of Infusoria food for any fry!
