This maybe a daft question but I have just cycled my hospital/extra tank and because I don't use it on a regular basis in having fish in there, how do I keep the bacteria alive.

Does anyone use their hospital tank differently??

Thanks

I know I keep my little sponge filter in my main tank until I need the smaller tank so that the sponge has all the necesary bacteria. I've been told this can transfer some of the disease but I doubt it's a big enough number.

In order to keep the bacteria alive, you need to feed it with ammonia and keep the water oxygenated. The amount of bacteria the live, will depend on the amount of food is available. It's probably easier to just clean it out and use some bacteria from an established tank to establish your QT tank again.
