How Do You Dispose Of Dead Fish?

i dont think water is recycled like that, if what you said is true, i wouldnt be too worried about water with a small dead fish in it because there are things that are worse that go down the toilet.
Well, here it is. Water ends up back at a plant where all the bits of junk are sieved out, then they add chemicals to kill the bacteria and such. Even if we don't get fish running out of our taps we still recieved the bill that it cost to clean out the water... The more people put stuff down their loos, the more work the water plant laborors have to do, the more you are charged for your water.

So I suppose thinking about it fish don't end up back in the system and all their nasites are cleaned up by chemicals... but we end up paying for it after all.

the water that is treated is sent back to the ocean, or a river if you dont live near the ocean i think. the water that goes to your tap comes from a reservior, at least where i live it does. the water is treated again before it goes into your tap.

Pretty Odd question...But I tend to use the old toliet... I dont want to put it in a grave because the cats will find it and eat it.

I place mine in empty cigarette boxes, it makes me fell better as I hope sea gulls cant eat them at the dump and I think that flushing them can pollute our water right?

I dont think it would pollute it any more than the human waste that goes down their as well as used condoms etc etc.

I don't live near the ocean and the water where I live is recycled and from resivour supplies. I know it gets treated again, thats what I said.

lol...stop and think what goes down the loo EVERY day...you think the odd guppy will matter???

in fact if you have cod for diner thats going down the loo at some point (unless you greenies compost that as well!)

I'm really embarrassed, but there have been times that I have thrown them out the window into the bushes below. This is at my dormitory where I cannot really bury them but would rather not flush or trash them.

At my parents home, I usually compost or bury. I feel weird flushing them.

Mine all go to the Rose garden. Sad, but its life, i like to think im doing good buy them, allowing them to go back into life's cycle.
Thats a good idea.....except my mom can't keep anything growing in her gearden except weeds. I think she's a champ at weed growing...hmhm...
I'd put mine in the compost.

I bury mine, I find half of the centre of a toilet roll acts as good coffin. Then out with the trowel, under a bush.

I have a friend who once worked at a water treatment plant in the UK.
They stories he had about the things that ended up in their filters - well, I won't say incase anyone is eating, but lets just say that amougst other things, I don't really eat sweetcorn any more.

Anyhow, the point it, there is so much 'stuff' that goes through our sewerage sytem, that the occasional dead goldfish matters not. The amount of chemicals that are added too, either in the form of bleach and the like from the consumer or treatments from the water board kill pretty much anything before they come remotley near us.

And as for systems that flush into existing natural water systems - what do you think happens when a native fish dies in a river?

As a side note, those in the UK should be aware of certain pieces of legislation that make it an offences to pollute the waterways of the UK. This includes disposing of anything other than rain water into an open water drainage system. That said, in theory its illegal to wash your car in your drive, or do what most men have done when caught short.
