How do you disinfect nets after you've used them to, say, remove a dead fish? I have been sticking mine in boiling water but I wondered if there was any kind of disinfectant type product made especially for this kind of thing.... Thanks.

leaving them to dry in the air often kills bacteria
boiling is a good way to kill everything on the net
and some people use bleach but i dont know ive never dared use it!

I have Myxazin as medicine, but I sometimes use it to disinfect all my nets etc. as its a good all round disinfectant. Other than that, I use boiling water.

Waterlife produce an antibacterial medication called Myaxin that you can also use to sterilise nets, other equipment and live food:

"MYXAZIN can also be used to sterilise nets and live foods such as Daphnia and Tubifex, for treating Whitespot in seawater aquaria containing invertebrates. MYXAZIN is mild on fish, highly biodegradable and effective against a wide range of fish health problems"

i have a big jar with water + myxazin in it. This is usually plenty to disinfect the nets thoroughly.

Steralize the nets in a bucket of boiling water and cooking salt.

Bucket of water, splash of bleach. Rinse with tap water after 10 minuites or when I get around to it.

I go with the method that Tolak uses, but as an extra precaution when using chlorine bleach I add a squirt of dechlorinator to the final rinse water and let the nets dry thoroughly before using them again.

Waterlife's Myxazin must be a great product. I hear such good things about it, I wish I could buy it here. :D

I usually just rinse mine and let them dry... I don't use them that often anyways, so I didn't think I needed to buy anything to disinfect them with. I think the Net Soak stuff is cool though, sounds convenient.

Formalin always gives me awful headaches.... plus a big loss of appetite.
