As i have mentioned in another thread, I went to see a new LFS in my area. I've always wondered how they get them up and running. Do they have some different technology that removes ammonia etc?

I cant imagine them doing a fishless cycle and adding 2 litres of ammonia a day for 6 weeks. heheheh..

I`m going to gue4ss they just keep up with regular water changes, plus also have some stuff to seed the bacteria, it also depends on hw the tanks are filtered, some run off one huge centeralised filter system

They probably just do it the old fashion way with starter fish and ammonia detoxifiers.

probably.

but most people running lfs's will have they're own tanks, maybe just seed the filters from they're own then run them with danio's, platy's etc for a few weeks until it's all cycled.

Maybe, but they would still have a massive bio-load to add..

I don't know why i worry myself about things like this :S :S :S .. i'm the type of person who lies awake thinking about daft stuff.. like how do babies think.. odd eh... i mean, i look at something and think in english,, "whats that..?" they dont even know what "whats that" means.. We dont need to solve the baby problem though btw.. but any more ideas on the LFS front would be nice.. ;)

I should get out more.

ha ha yeah you probably should....

but i'd say they think in 'instincts' and feelings rather than in language. you might not know what 'hungry' means but you'd know the feeling in your tummy, and after you've seen a few times that food sorts it out you make the connection. just cos you don't have the language to express it you still know that you put food in your mouth and it gets rid of hunger :)

Yeah.. i agree with that.. but what happens inbetween.. i mean its really difficult to stop thinking, especially as a fella... and you know what we are thinking about most of the time.. (ask BigIan if your not sure)..

The MA branches run on auto changers that flush the whole system and replace with freshwater every 24 hours, at least thats what i have been told.

Crikey... sounds impressive (and thanks for getting us back on topic). With a dechlorination injection eh.

I guess the marine stuff may be alittle different, as the salinity would need to be sorted out too.. and probably RO water.

On a novice note.. do we dechlorinate just because it kills of the bacteria, or is it actually bad for the fish anyway.

the day i start to undestand what goes on in Ian's head is a very worrying time for my sanity

yeah it is hard to stop thinking, but for babies just making the basic associations like the example with food is gonna take a lot of they're time up, i reckon it keeps them pretty much occupied.

and just like men they can be distracted from they're deep meaningful thoughts by anything that's shiny and flashes

Apperently they dont dechlorinate the water, the guy i was speaking to claims the big pump that circulates the water knocks all the chlorine out of the water and the shear volume of water and being replaced every day stops the build up of any toxins to harmfull levels.

my lfs is opening a new shop in dunfermline , i asked him how he was gonna do this , he said that they would just take half the gravel from all the old shops tanks and tranfer it to the new shop. they use under gravel filters run by air

Cow bag!

Babys for the first 6-9 months are still refining there brain at the moment of birth you have almost 40 times the amount of brain cells you have as an adult. as your brain develops, these cells grow axioms and dendrion (this is what the cells use to send electronic pulces to each other.)
Your brain slowly removes any cells that arent needed. stremlining the way it thinks, after this stage is when you really start to develop, motor skills speach, aswell as thought...

Users guid to the human brain by John J ratey its a realy good book.....

And back on topic.

Don`t forget that Lfs`s have links with various supliers through out the country and the world and could no doubt get hold of media from them

crikey.. looks like i have both questions answered.. i will sleep well tonight, i never expected the baby one to get answered... impressed... seems like Ian doesn't just think about what i expected him to...

You couldn't help me out with "whats at the end of the universe?" could you Ian?

Cheers

any relation to the dendrions in fish ??? do they use them to sense things as well?

is that book still at your mum's, i wanna read it :)

i thought that about media too, can just imagine putting an order in for 200 neons and 20 moist used filter sponges :shifty:
