as long as there is a bit of rhizome and a leaf, it will be big enough.

Use a single sided razorblade or very sharp fine blade knife and cut thru it on a chopping board.

Generally you cut the rhizome in half keeping some leaves on each piece. Make sure the rhizome is at least 2 inches long before you go hacking it up, especially for crypts. And don't do it too often because it can cause it to rot.

Do you mean the rhizome has to be 2" long to cut it or cut off 2"

The cut rhizome needs to be about 2 inches
The end result should be about 2 inches
