I have had fry for about a month now, and apparently have been over feeding them. The bottom of the trap is so dirty, you can't see through it at all. My net is too big to fit in the breeder. I drain the breeder down very low to flush out any water-borne pollutants once a day. Thanks in advance.

Siphon the bottom with a piece of air line tubing.

Try getting a small bucket and using a piece of air tube as a siphon. I don't know how well it would work, but you could give it a try. Tell me how it works!

I would just try to get a bucket, fill it with existing tank water so you don't have to worry about water quality or temperature. Submerge the trap. At this point, you don't care if the fish swim out. You can catch them again pretty easily after rinsing your breeding trap.

This is much easier to do...and it doesn't harm fry:

Get a pint glass or something as big...pour them in!!! and clean out the trap. You should do this every two days.

I used to do this method but I have since bought one of those pipettes that you use to pour juice over a large beef roast (theres a special name on them but I cant remember!!) They can hold about 50ml of water and are super at sucking up the dirt!! (just dont suck up the fry!!)

Turkey basters. I totally forgot about that. That should work better.

That being said, if you're going to keep fry for an extended period of time, perhaps a separate fry tank is best for their health in the long run.

I used to keep my fry in a breeder net, but now they have their own tank. Well, actually, I currently don't have any fry cuz they all died:(

I'm really lucky I guess in that my two female pearl gouramis (not the stupid male,) and one of my bronze cories have figured out they can eat the food at the bottom of the breeder net by sucking at it from the bottom. At first I was worried they were going to put holes in the net and my fry would escape but they haven't! Clever fish. So they keep it pretty clean for me! I only have to siphon the very edges where it falls on the plastic frame.

Sorry :(

I tried to pour them into a cup, but the water drained out of the breeder too fast, so I couldn't get them out fast enough. I tried to syphon the bottom with an airline tube, but it wasn't getting any waste, and I accidentally sucked up a fry. :/ I can't try the turkey baster thing because we only have one, and my mom would freak out if I used it to suck up fish poo, and uneated food. I guess I will try scraping it off with a tooth pick, and flushing the water.
