I am going out of town for about 2 weeks and I don't know what to do with my poor fichies!!! How good are those automatic feeders? Are they reliable? Should I have somebody feed them every 2 days or so? Any help would be much appreciated!

I have been out for 2 weeks before, and i didnt do anything with them. They all made it through. What fish do you have though? Some fish may be too sensitive for that.

P.T.

I use an automatic feeder for extended trips, but it's one of those mechanical "rotating drum" twice-a-day devices, not the "feeder blocks".

The device I have seems to work fairly well, but personally I've found that if you leave the dispenser full open (it can be adjusted), it spits out too much food.

Oh, and this thing cost about $8 US, and can usually be found at the Evil Empire of Wal-Mart. (Or, at chain pet stores, for about three times the price). I think it's made by Penn-Plax.

Well I have:

2 Blood heart Tetra
3 Harlequin Tetras
2 Blue Rams
3 Red Eye Tetras
1 clown pleco

How abou the block feeders are they any good?

I think the feeder blocks have plaster in them, which I don't think would be very good for your fish... If you have to just get someone to come in and feed them every other day, and show them how much to put in. (you could even just put how much for each feeding into little jars so that they can just dump it in)

Feeder blocks are terrible. They do more to pollute the water than they do to feed your fish.
