I was wondering how i can remove scratches from the inside of the aquarium,i moved the tank and pulled the magnets across the glass,i never noticed that there was a fine bit of sand/gravel in it and it scratched the glass,is there a way to do it that wont harm the fish or having to remove them from the tank etc.

Cheers :D

None that I know of. Are they really bad scratches? Or do you think you could ignore them after a while?

I dont think i could ignore it,i like my stuff to be in perfect order,:) its even more noticeable when the light is on,i know things get scratched and there is nothing that can be done, but i hope someone can think of something that maybe they have tried on scratches that they have possibly had.

Same as anything really, the only way to properly get the scratches out would be to polish the glass, not something you could do while the tank is in use.  And not something I'd have confidence doing at all.

If anyone has any in place solutions though I'd love to hear them.  Really though, unless you are super careful tanks gets scratched, just part of fishkeeping.

The easiest thing to do would be to turn the tank around so the scratch is at the back, but that would involve taking everything out and setting up the tank again.

I Thought on turning the tank around, but it means taking the filter of the sides of the tank etc,but there a bugger to get of them dont stick again,so i doubt it will probably be to live with the scratches etc

I have tried a few "miracle scratch removing" pastes. polishes etc on one of my old tanks, none of them actually work, you'll have to learn to live with it I am afraid. The only way is a deep polish which will actually make the glass slightly thinner, which is not a great idea on a tank.

i just noticed there on the outside of the tank,so maybe i will have to live with it,or might take a dremel with a buffer on it,dont really want to thin the glass lol would end up an explosion in the hallway :D

If they're on the outside you're better off than me. I have a second-hand tank with some tiny scratches inside, that's the first place the algae grows.

Hi Gruntle, yeah there on the outside, there doing my head in everytime i see them, would love them removed but i think iwill just have to live with them.

If they're on the outside, you could try painting over them with clear nail varnish. It can make them less noticeable!

Good idea fluttermoth i will have to pinch the missus varnish :D for the tank not me :p lol

Oh, go on, I've seen some very hot guys wearing nail varnish over the years ;) :p

LOL Ok i will get the varnish and the dress and all on :p lol be the new avatar pic :D

If anyone has scratches on the inside, buy some light reflectors and fit them to the bulbs so they can't shine directly on the front glass.

Drastically reduces the visibility of them!
