I have a betta that appears to be suffering from body / finrot and fungus. It shares a 35 litre tank with adolphi corys.

I added Interpet Anti fungus and finrot treatment No 8 as well as adding Tonic Salt which I thought would help with the fungus.

The recommeded dose for the salt is 2 teaspoons per 5 litres on the second day of treatment, the first day it was 1 teaspoon per 5 litres.

I added this amount if salt and it has seriously affected the fish. The betta started listing to one side before retreating to a the top of the water heater. The corys stopped moving totally.

I moved them to a plastic tank that I managed to buy in the local pet store, no filter, no heater etc, it is only 8.3 litres as well. There is no gravel or plants in it either.

I figured it was better to get the fish into a safe tank as quick as possible and worry about everything else later.

Is my only option now a 100% water change to get rid of the salt?

Is there any level of salt sake with corys?

Changing the water with freshwater will remove the salt. However, if you have moved the fish into freshwater already then you will have added to the stress. Normally when fish have a bit of salt in the water you change 10% of the tank water each day to slowly dilute the salt out. Changing too much water can dramatically affect the fish's body salt levels and cause osmotic shock. Having said that if you have already moved the fish out don't put them back in with salt because it will make the problem worse. Just leave them in freshwater.

Corydoras and discus are two types of fish that should not have salt in their tanks.
