How do I properly prune plants.

for example corckscrew val is one that I have.

Not sure what the other one is called.

what about amazon sword? (for that one I have been taking off the sides of it since those seem to be the larger braches of it and the new sprouts seem to come from the mddle.

Cambomba I have figured out :)

And java moss is yank and pull out. (actually thinking of getting rid of it totally. Not really appealing to me.)

The easiest way to prune camboba as well as hornwort and moneywort is to take a decient length of the plant off the top and replant it. The bottom part usually isn't in the best condition so it can just be thrown out.

Spot on with the amazon sword. Cut the bigger leaves growing on the outside, and this will allow more light for the smaller leaves growing in the inside.

For the val, I think that cutting the larger leaves should be OK. Or wait until someone who has experience with the plant comes along.

You could always PM gf225, I know he has val in his tank.

HTH.

So for the val I just cut them wherever and they will grow back?

Like in that pic above I just cut them in half if I want and they will grow back?

Also what is this plant shown below and how do I prune it?

I am good to go for my other plants.

And I have been using fertilizer for the last week and my amazon sword already looks healthier and the cambomba is sprouting new sprouts on the top. :)

I need to add 1 or 2 more cories to get more poop. lol

2nd pic is is sort of a hygro.

Prune it by cutting the dead/dying leaves, and the leaves that are on top.

I have Hygrophilia Polysperma as a carpet plant in my tank, and it's doing great!

Alright thanks.

Now i know how to prune all my plants.

Those corckscrew val grow damn fast too. maybe its teh fertilizer i use but within a couople days they had grown like a inch and a bit if not more. either that or i was imagining things lol.

But when i planted them i dont remeber them being higher then the water level and within a bit they where like all overthe top blocking the light.

Do plants grow that fast?

Vals will certainly grow an inch in a couple of days :) and you should soon see runners as well.

Leaves which have been cut will not grow but newer ones will take its place.

The val in your tank does not appear to be corkscrew (has more twisty leaves) so you've probably got the larger variety.

ps: For the hygro cut at a node and the plant should branch out and become bushier.

I have left the stems in occasionally, depending on it's condition. Sometimes it grows another stem, sometimes it just sits there collecting algae.
