I'm getting a new female for my male convict who lost his partner a month ago. They're an aggressive species and if they don't get on could kill or seriously injure each other
Need temporary tank divider when I first introduce them to each other until I know whether they are in love or planning to kill each other. Most of the DIY tank dividers on this forum (and for sale on Ebay) are flimsy structures designed to separate small betta.

Need some advice and ideas:
1. What material will be strong enough to withstand attack from one (maybe 2) aggressive 3.5inch cichlids
2. How do I fix the divider securely to tank sides. i don't think those suction cups will be strong enough to make the barrier cichlid proof.

id use glass and underwater silicone it to the glass then scrape off the sillicone

Glass runner cut in two to fit in the aquarium, plastic mesh cut to fit in the gap.
You could get it tense enough so it's just wedged, or use something else to wedge it, or silicone the runners for longer use.

These work very well. This is a club slightly north of me, serious cichlid breeders, plenty of glassbangers. Just make sure to build it high enough so they can't jump across to the other side, flush with whatever you put on top of the tank. I've had male cons chase an undesirable female out of the tank.

agree, then at least you can relax without the thought of them knocking it over
I'm sure I already posted this lol..
It's just as easy to silicone ( or wedge) two plastic runners like this on either side- http://www.vivtronic.co.uk/reptilepets/ind...c=Miscellaneous to slide a bit of plastic in (cut to the correct size). If you can't find the correct mesh size you could use a heated skewer to make holes in some plastic, or soldering iron.

Great =this lbarrier looks strong enough to fend off a shark attack!
