ok, so today i started noticing my male betta is building a bubble nest on his side of the tank. The thing is, the rest of the females in the tank stays and looks at where the divider is, and it looks like they are trying to get to the bubble nest. But everytime my females gets close to the divider, my male betta would start flaring around the divider. is there anything i can do to get them to mate?

It's not just a case of getting bettas to mate - you have to prepare fully before hand
bettas can have 100+ fry - 60-80 of these can be males - so you would need to seperate the males from approx 8 weeks of age
you need 80 2 litre tubs - daily 50-75% water changes on every tub and the ability to keep them at a stable temperature

you also cant sell them on until they are around 4-5 months of age

you will need to get this all ready before you even consider spawning bettas

you will also need to have food for the fry -- live food is not essential to raise fry so if anyone tells you they only need live food - you dont

Pippoddle; wow, I didn't realize that the male percentage would be that high, or even that bettas spawned that many at a time anyway, I thought that there would be about 40-50 max XD How do you heat all those tiny tubs? Do you have an immence amount of very small heaters or do you keep them in a warm room? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious :)

i keep mine in a very warm room - seperate thermostat in the front room - old wiring on flat - council offered to remove the seperate one but i told them to leave it in - now the front room stays warm temps in tubs 24-26 degrees - all have individual thermometers

the mini tubs i use are 7x4x5" and also have a divider so for the first couple of weeks can double up the males until they grow larger then have to be put into individual ones

water changes are a pain in the butt lol

Some bettas only have 20 fry survive but i have friends that have had over 100 fry survive and have had to seperate 70 of them as they are male - lot of hard work

*giggle* If I ever decided to breed bettas I'd probably end up pilfering old ice cream tubs from work (We get through like, 4 or 5 minimum on an average shift XD)

I'd imagine the water changes would be difficult, I don't even want to think how much declorinator I'd get through XD
