Hello everyone,

I have a ten gallon tank, i have 4 young "female" speckled mollys and one male adult red wag platy. I used to have a female adult gold platy that had very large black spots on it. This fish died about 4 weeks ago and 3 weeks ago i was cleaning my tank and found 2 platy fry. These fry are very light blue almost white colored, one has the wag tail and fins and the other has very small black dots on its body. there seems to be a little orange on the spotted ones dorsal fin. I owned the gold platy for about 1 year and the red wag i have raised from a fry. I am just wondering how i got white/light blue fry from a red wag platy and a gold platy with large black spots.

perhaps they dont have their full adult coloring yet...my orange wag babies just have black tails and the slightest twing of pink to them yet. also even if you know what colors the parents were...do you know what colors they were going back two or three generations? because different colors can pop up that way:)

are going to raise and keep the blue ones...if they turn out blue?

It all depends on the parents of the mother, if they are a cross between differnt types of cultivated platies then they are likely to produce any sort of random fry.

Thanks,

i did not know that the genetics of the mother could effect it, the male is a pure red wag. yea the female was a mutt, haha, i havent seen any like her so i was very excited when i saw the babies.

I do plan on keeping them, i am cycling a 30 gallon tank now to be able to house all of the fish together once the fry get larger.
they seem to be blue on top and pinkish on the bottom and are very iradesent. Ill post pictures when they get larger =)

when they grow and have fry you should send me some...blue and pink....hmmm....I like
