they do take on the colours of the background as a form of camoflage, are the patches always in the same places?
mine used to change colour quite a bit especially between sitting on dark wood and the light gravel. Had to give him up due to size but they are wonderful aren't they. I have a smaller green pleco now but he isn't such a character.
