So, I now have 3 females 2 of which seem to be very pregnant the other not at all. I have just gotten 2 of the 3 females today and the one I am worried about is the yellow and red one. She seems to be pretty far along so I have placed her in a breeder with a fry that just happened to come home with me also. My original female is black and has been pregnant for it seems like forever. She went through the complete cycle of the tank with me and is still doing great. She continues to get bigger and I would like to know when you think she may drop. Would it be best to just let them do it in the main part and let nature take its course?

Just for reference the other occupants of the tank include:
1 baby pleco
2 cory sterbai catfish which are pretty small
3 female guppies
1 male guppy
1 unknown guppy fry surprise in the bag.

Another question I have is the fry seems to be about a cm in length. Would it be safe to put into the main tank or to keep in the full breeder for a while? Would it possibly be sucked up in the filter before I can get nylons on it?
Sorry for the long explanation and such I'm very new to this.
I can give bigger pictures or possibly videos if needed.

I'm sorry- I don't know when the guppies are going to have their fry. However, I can answer some of the questions about the fry themselves! If you want to save every one of them, leave them in the breeder until they're big enough not to be eaten (yes, the other fish in the community tank will eat them if they have the chance). None of my fry got sucked into the filter, but I was watching them and grabbing the little guys in a net as soon as they were born. If you don't want to save all of them, simply leave them in the community tank and let the fast and smart ones survive. Good luck!

It's impossible to say from these picture but my first guess is that they are no where near giving birth and you should remove them from the breeder net. Your females will be giving birth withou every 3-4 weeks for the next 6 months probably even if you don't have a male there. If you save too many now, you can't save anymore in the future unless you are going to have a house full of tanks. :hey:

Guppies can stress a lot in a breeder net, they can abort their fry, give birth prematurely or die themselves. Some people say it is ok and is probably required when you want to save each one of the fry but imagine the stress for the poor mother.
Best thing is to provide enough hiding places like plants and decorations and leave them be. Even if you save 10 fry from each female, that makes 30 fish. Do you have a tank or a breeder box such size to even start raising the fry?
You can cover the filter intake with tights or socks from similar material. Generally they shouldn't be sucked in and is yet to happen to me with healthy fish but that depends how powerful the filter is.

Good luck whatever you decide.

I took the females out straight after pictures. I have the hitch hiker fry in there with some plant pieces. Other than that I have decided nature can take its course especially because I have 3 females I don't believe I should be too worried about losing any.

The females will love you for letting them out. If you really want to save many fry then make sure there are plants at the bottom, even some of those artificial silk soft ones and some big stones or similar decoration as they love hiding under things like that. If you can, add some floating type of plants for the surface because guppy fry will try to eat food with the adults. This will be sufficient for quite a few fry to survive to a non-snack size. You never know, your adults may as well not be interested in eating them either. Mine gradually turned from very cannibalistic evil parents to almost not paying attention to the fry unless they were stealing their food.

Thank you very much :) I'll just keep the breeding trap full size for my hitch hiker then go get some more plants and let her out.
