How can i tell???

Hiya all. I've checked through and no-one seems to have asked just what I need to know and I know these questions can get a bit repetetive so I wont waffle.

I have mickey mouse platies. The girls are both pregnant and well fat and as they are white it is quite easy to see through them. 1 of them looks like she has a cluster of off-white eggs in her belly(no black bits), the other has the same looking eggs but has started to get more and more black dots appearing.

Question: How on earth do I know when they are due?? They both seem to have been pregnant for weeks now. I've only ever had 1 other pregnant platie and she died before having any fry so I've never seen it happen.

P.S. I bought one of the breeding traps yesteray with the false floors in them - if I put her in now she might be in there for ages

Firstly...it is not eggs you are seeing...it is fry....and the black dots are eyes...as to when they are due...when you can see lots of black dots in there belly....very soon after that....so the one where you see black dots...I would put her in the breeding trap now....as for th oter one....wait till you can see the black dots!!

Thanks Chooklet I'll do that. There seems to be only a few eyes showing in the fry she is carrying - should I wait til she has lots showing?

How long can she be kept couped up in the trap, there is not a lot of swimming room in them things?

The one with no eyes showing is bigger than her - does this matter??

Dont say that mate, seriously, i dont know what Mickey mouse platies are, so does that make me thick, nah, i signed up here to learn everything about my fish and i have, if you need help you have come to the right place, i aint much help here though, because i mainly deal with swordtails
